WORKSHOP 3 NANOMEDICINE - Special Sessions !
1. Clinical Applicability of Nanomedicine: Round Tables & Flash Presentations in major Diseases
Each year, this special session involves Round Tables mixed with Clinical Flash Talks to elucidate the pathophysiology mechanisms of major diseases in line with the diagnostic and therapeutic strategies applied in clinical practice. The Round Tables aim to bridge the gap between Engineers and Doctors, facing the challenges in early diagnosis and effective treatment of diseases. This year, the Round Tables will focus on Atherosclerosis, Neurodegenerative Diseases and Brain Cancer. Clinical doctors will present in Flash Talks and discuss with nanotechnologists the unsolved clinical problems in the above diseases and novel nanomedicine- oriented strategies will be explored.

Experts in nanoparticles (NPs) synthesis for in vivo imaging and drug delivery will discuss in- depth the requirements for NPs design, materials and physicochemical properties to meet the demands for the targeted clinical application. Scientists from different disciplines ranging from Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Engineering, Materials Science, Pharmacy will discuss with Medical Doctors about NPs characteristics to serve a specific goal in the fight against cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, congenital, neurodegenerative diseases, thrombosis, etc. The challenge is to find the balance between the maximum effectiveness of the NPs and their nanotoxicity. |
3. Nanosafety versus Nanotoxicity, Ethics & Regulations towards Translational Medicine

The panel includes the experts in the fields of nanomedicine and nano-bio-technologies, who will reveal the implications of cutting edge nanotechnologies for the accurate, early diagnosis and therapy of diseases ensuring nanosafety. Challenges in Regulation, Toxicology and Ethics in medicine will be discussed to find the balance between the therapeutic efficacy and safety of nanomedicines for Personalized Medicine. |
4. Nanomedicine Networking & Commercialization (Co-Organized with European Technology Platform on Nanomedicine - ETPN)
This session aims to gather the main players in research, industry and public administration within the nanomedicine field. It will focus on nanomedicine initiatives in European, Asian, and other countries from all over the world and interdisciplinary networks within clinical nanomedicine to promote new collaborations and to strengthen the existing ones. The NANOMEDICINE NETWORKING session will foster the cooperation between the clinicians, engineers and researchers with the strategy developers, regulators and medical stakeholders. Any translation pathways from research to clinical and applied nanomedicine will be explored to find new routes of collaboration in European and international initiatives like European projects. Company-CEOs, Innovation-Scouts, R&D Managers from University and industry will participate in the discussion to highlight the opportunities for commercialization of nanomedicines and for investments from potential investors (e.g. venture capitalists, private investors, etc).
